You are invited to join our free online and in-person classes to practice your English conversation skills! All classes are free, and our goal is to provide a safe, comfortable environment for you to improve your English abilities. We recommend that you already have intermediate English conversation skills in order to truly benefit from our classes. If you are just beginning with English, there are other Madison resources such as Literacy Network.

Visiting another country can be challenging. Just imagine living in another country for months or years as you finish your degree! For many of our international friends, their spouse and children come along as well.
The IFC provides a safe, educational, and enriching community for our international guests. They have the opportunity to forge lifelong friendships with Americans as well as other international friends.
We also have the unique opportunity to be ambassadors to our international friends. We treasure this opportunity to welcome our friends with open arms! We want to make everyone feel at home and help them learn about the real and genuine U.S.
Our in-person classes are hosted in downtown Madison at the Upper House on the 2nd floor. For more information on our address and also see a map, visit our class schedule. The Upper House also provides student resources that our international friends can utilize, such as open study hours and free lunches.
All IFC classes are free for students to join. The IFC originally started as a church ministry in 1986 and was established as an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2021. We rely on the financial gifts and support from our partners to keep our mission going.
The IFC has an executive director who coordinates the classes and activities, and the board of directors consists of four local members who actively participate in the organization.
